Генетическая теория, согласно которой основными носителями наследственной (генетической) информации являются хромосомы chromosome и линейно расположенные на них гены; основы Х.т. заложены Т.Морганом и его сотрудниками в начале ХХ в. на базе закономерностей (законов), установленных Г.Менделем.
